The original Cancer to 5K Team started in Northern Virginia/DC, and is coached by Bob Shaver of Shaver Multisport. Coach Shaver has been participating in distance cycling for over 15 years, and duathlons and triathlons for 9 years. His best finish was a 3rd place 40-44 age group finish in the 2000 Cambridge Duathlon.
Coach Bob started Shaver Multisport in 2002, and since then he has coached clients in short course duathlons, sprint to iron distance triathlons and running races from 5Ks to marathons. Clients have included a 2005 Team USA member (duathlon) and a Boston Marathon qualifier.
Physical therapy after knee surgery in 1990 led to Bob’s interest in exercise physiology and kinesiology. He applies these interests to helping clients develop efficient cycling, running and swimming techniques. Together with his life-long love of fitness, Coach Bob strives to make these sports a fun, rewarding, and life-long activity. He helps people balance life and fitness, and to have a better life through fitness.
