The CANCER to 5K Training Program is a free 12-week training program designed to introduce and/or reintroduce cancer survivors to training for and completing a 5K road race. This is a progressive run/walk program designed to get you to your first 5K finish line happy, healthy, injury-free and able to cover the distance.  Since fall 2007, 47 survivors have completed the Cancer to 5K program  - we encourage YOU to become one of them!

Worried you’ll be too slow or last? Don’t be … Just come out and give it a try!

The CANCER to 5K Training Program is open to young adult cancer survivors, regardless of the current treatment status. We welcome survivors who have completed treatment as well as those survivors who are currently undergoing treatment. While every individual’s cancer treatment program is different, there are many patients who can benefit from a weekly exercise routine while in treatment.  There is no fundraising commitment for Cancer to 5K.

Guiding you through a successful survivorship is our primary concern! To that end, we require all participants to review the training program with their treatment team. (oncologist, primary physician, chemo nurse, etc.) A Medical Waiver will be provided that must be signed by the participant’s current primary care physician before starting the program to ensure that training for a 5K won’t negatively impact your treatment or recovery.

The CANCER to 5K Training Program is limited to 15-20 participants per 12-week session.

CANCER to 5K runners receive:

  • Custom CANCER to 5K Race/Technical T-shirt
  • CANCER to 5K Water bottle
